He was married eight times, with one of his wives being Sue Cobb Cowley, who he was married to until his death in 1940. His other spouses included Dagmar Dahlgren and Edna Valentine Hein, among others. His relationships often ended in divorce.

Norman Selby passed away on April 18, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, in a tragic manner, as he died by suicide.
