Odette Tyler was born Elizabeth Lee Kirkland on September 26, 1869, in Savannah, Georgia. She was the daughter of William Whedbee Kirkland and Susan Ann Hardee. Her godfather was General Robert E. Lee. Tyler was married twice; her first marriage was to Edgar Pinchit Crissman, from which she later divorced, and her second marriage was to actor R.D. MacLean, which lasted until her death in 1936.

Career

Tyler began her acting career at the age of 16, working with well-known figures like Charles Frohman and William Faversham. She became a notable figure in Los Angeles, where she was deeply involved in music circles. Tyler was one of the founders of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and served as chair of the women’s committee of the Los Angeles Grand Opera Association.
