Olive de Wilton was an American actress best known for her work in “Joseph Howe: The Tribune of Nova Scotia,” “Shoestring Theatre,” and “Dorchester Theatre.”

Personal and Family Life

Born as Edith Doreen de Wilton on March 25, 1898, in Ropeley, Hampshire, England, she was the daughter of a retired Captain in the Royal Scots Greys. Olive experienced an early, unsuccessful marriage before immersing herself in a performing career, traveling across the northeastern United States and Canada. She was married three times; her notable partner was the famous actor Boris Karloff, whom she married in 1915 and divorced in 1919.

Career

Olive’s acting career included working with various theater companies, where she took on roles as an actress and playwright, also managing some of the productions. After spending years in England, she returned to Canada in 1952 and continued to act on stage and in films. Additionally, she contributed her writing skills to the National Film Board of Canada before retiring to her home in western Canada.

Death and Legacy

Olive de Wilton passed away in 1968 in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada. Her contributions to stage and film, as well as her role in early 20th-century Canadian entertainment, are remembered by those who appreciate the arts. Despite her challenges, she made a lasting impact in the performing arts scene.
