He later moved to Australia, working as a carpenter and performing in various bands during the evenings. He found a significant musical connection when he joined the band Wickety Wak as their bass player.

Pahnie’s career took off in Brisbane after joining Wickety Wak, where he enjoyed being part of a family-like group of musicians. When the band retired in 1990, he faced a difficult transition but soon began his solo career and worked briefly with Three Dimension. Along with his wife Ngaire, he formed the successful duo Pinkke Champagne, and he continued to perform with various collaborators through the years.
