Born Irene Marjorie Ritscher on August 19, 1910, in London, England, Patience Collier was the daughter of Paul Ritcher and Eva Spitzel. She was married to Henry Oswald Jackson Collier and they had three children together. Collier began her acting career on stage in 1932 and spent a significant part of her career with the British National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
