Paul Genge was married twice during his lifetime. His first marriage was to Rowena Kirkpatrick from 1944 to 1946, which ended in divorce. Later, he married Jeanne Elsa Lasher in 1948, and they remained together until her death in 1976. The couple had one child.

Genge began his acting journey on the East Coast, participating in several Broadway plays, including “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet.” He transitioned to film and television in 1953, becoming well-known for playing tough characters, particularly police officers. His iconic role as a hitman in the classic movie Bullitt solidified his reputation in the industry.
