Pauline Lord was an American actress who is best known for her performances in Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch, A Feather in Her Hat, and her notable stage role as Anna Christie on Broadway.

Pauline Lord was born on August 8, 1890, in Hanford, California. She studied acting at the Alcazar Theatre in San Francisco and made her stage debut in 1903 with the Belasco Stock Company. She was married to Owen B. Winter from April 27, 1929, until their divorce on October 26, 1931.

Career Highlights

Lord started her Broadway career in 1912 with the play ‘The Talker’. She became especially famous for her portrayal of Anna Christie, a role that originated on stage from 1921 to 1922. Other notable works include ‘Trelawney of the Wells’ in 1927 and ‘The Late Christopher Bean’ from 1932 to 1933. In 1946, she toured with ‘The Glass Menagerie’ where she played the role of Amanda.

Death and Legacy

Pauline Lord passed away on October 10, 1950, due to heart trouble after a car accident near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Her legacy remains as a grand stage star known for her tender-hearted portrayals, which continue to influence actors today.
