Peggy Aitchison

Peggy Aitchison was an English actress who is best known for her roles in Crossroads, Edna: The Inebriate Woman, and A Prayer for the Dying.

Peggy Aitchison was born on October 22, 1921, in Edmonton, Middlesex, England. She grew up in the Muswell Hill area of London and attended Woodford Bridge School in Croydon, where she was classmates with notable actresses Peggy Ashcroft and Diana Wynyard. After finishing school, she worked for a women’s magazine and taught speech and drama.

Career

At the age of 30, Peggy approached the Croydon Repertory Theatre to work backstage and quickly moved up to small acting roles. She performed in various repertory theatres across the country. One of her significant roles was in Hadrian VII at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, which later moved to London. She gained fame for her part in the daily TV serial Crossroads, which she joined in 1967 and returned to in 1970. Peggy remained unmarried throughout her life.
