Peggy Davis died on March 28, 1931, in Paris, France, at the age of 31. She left behind a note expressing her despair, which led to her tragic suicide by driving off a cliff. Her husband, David Townsend, believed she had no reason to take her own life, casting doubt on how her death was perceived.
