Peter Anders was born Emil Anders on July 1, 1908 in Essen, Germany. He was married to soprano Susanne Mysz-Gmeiner in 1935, and they had one daughter, Sylvia Anders, who was born on March 17, 1943, in Berlin. His wife Susanne was the daughter of his voice teacher, Lula Mysz Gmeiner.

Death and Legacy

Peter Anders tragically died in a car accident on September 10, 1954, in Hamburg, Germany. He left behind a legacy as a great interpreter of the German “Lied,” with his recording of Franz Schubert’s “Winterreise” being celebrated as a masterpiece among recorded music. His influence continues in the fields of music and acting through his daughter, Sylvia Anders.
