Peter Ashmore was born on January 29, 1916, in Highgate, London, England. He was the son of Marie (Cavaliero) and William Oliver Nodes; his mother was Sephardi Jewish with roots in Greece and Portugal. He had two children with actress Rosalie Crutchley, Jonathan Ashmore and Catherine. He was married to Petra Gullstrand from 1963 until his passing in 1997.
Career
Ashmore was one of the leading theater directors in Britain, starting his career in 1947 with the successful play “Edward, My Son.” He directed numerous plays in London’s West End and several in New York, including productions featuring notable actors like Richard Burton and Errol Flynn. His last directed play was “Mr. Rhodes” in 1961, which did not achieve the same success as his previous works.
Death and Legacy
Peter Ashmore passed away on July 26, 1997, in Cork, Ireland. Remarkably, he died just two days before his ex-wife, Rosalie Crutchley. His contributions to theater and film have left a lasting impact, and he is remembered for his work both on stage and in film.
