Peter Graves was born Peter Duesler Aurness on March 18, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was raised in a family involved in the arts, with his brother being the well-known actor James Arness. Peter married Joan Endress on December 16, 1950, and they had three children together. He enjoyed a close relationship with his family throughout his life.

Career

After serving in the United States Army Air Force for two years, Graves studied drama at the University of Minnesota. He moved to Hollywood, where he began his acting career on television and made his film debut in Rogue River (1951). He gained fame for his television roles, especially as Jim Phelps in Mission: Impossible, starting in 1966.

Death and Legacy

Peter Graves passed away from a heart attack on March 14, 2010, just days before his 84th birthday.
