Peter Murray-Hill was born on April 20, 1908, in Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire, England. He was married to actress Phyllis Calvert from 1941 until his death in 1957, and they had two children together. The couple met during a West End production of “Punch Without Judy” in 1939.

He served as the president of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association from 1956 to 1957 and was known for his expertise in 18th-century books. Aside from acting, he was also recognized as a publisher, leaving behind a legacy in both fields.
