His first marriage was to “Sweet Adaline” la France in 1914, while he was just 49 pounds and Adaline weighed 600 pounds. Their marriage was notable for its unconventional circumstances as she was too large to enter the courtroom. His second marriage was to Helen “Bunny” Smith in 1916, who weighed 467 pounds. Together, they became well-known for their humorous performances in the circus.
