Phil Hartman

Phil Hartman was a Canadian-American actor who is best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, and NewsRadio. He was celebrated for his comedic talent and versatile voice acting, which made him a beloved figure in television and film.

Personal and Family Life

Phil Hartman was born Phillip Edward Hartmann on September 24, 1948, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He grew up with seven siblings and moved to the United States when he was around ten years old. He later became a U.S. citizen in the early 1990s. Phil was married three times and had two children with his last wife, Brynn Hartman.

Career

Phil started his career as a graphic artist before transitioning to comedy. He joined The Groundlings, a comedy troupe, and eventually became a cast member of Saturday Night Live in 1986. Known for impersonating celebrities and creating memorable characters, he became known as “The Glue of Saturday Night Live.” Additionally, he provided voice work for characters on The Simpsons, including Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz.

Death and Legacy

Phil Hartman tragically died on May 28, 1998, when he was shot by his wife Brynn in their home. Afterward, Brynn took her own life. The couple left behind two children, and both of their ashes were spread on Catalina Island, which was Phil’s favorite getaway. His legacy lives on through his memorable characters and contributions to comedy.
