Houk had a successful career in baseball, managing the New York Yankees from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1966 to 1973. He also managed the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox and played for the Yankees from 1947 to 1954. In addition to his managerial roles, he served as the Yankees’ general manager from 1964 to 1966 and worked as a consultant for the Tigers and Twins after his retirement.
