Ray Dooley was born on October 30, 1888, in Glasgow, Scotland. She was married to Eddie Dowling, a notable figure in the theater world. The couple had two children. Ray had three brothers who were also actors: Johnny, Gordon, and William Dooley. Her father was a circus performer, and the family’s last name was originally “Dool” until it was changed to “Dooley.”
Death and Legacy
Ray Dooley passed away on January 28, 1984, in East Hampton, New York. Her legacy continues through her work in film and the accomplishments of her family. Her son, John Graham “Jack” Dowling, tragically died in a plane crash, while her surviving daughter, Mary Maxine Dowling Clark, and three grandchildren carry on her memory.
