Ray Walston was born Herman Walston on November 2, 1914, in Laurel, Mississippi. He was married to Ruth Calvert from November 3, 1943, until his death in 2001, and they had one daughter named Katherine Ann Walston. Although his father wanted him to pursue a career in the oil business, Walston followed his passion for acting and began his career in local theater.

Career

Walston’s acting journey began with a local stock company, leading him to join a traveling repertory company. He gained fame for his role as the extraterrestrial Uncle Martin on “My Favorite Martian,” which aired in 1963. Walston also won a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway production of “Damn Yankees” and received two Emmy Awards for his work on “Picket Fences.”

Death and Legacy

Ray Walston passed away at the age of 86 on January 1, 2001, in Beverly Hills, California, due to lupus. His contributions to the entertainment industry left a lasting impact, and he is remembered fondly for his versatile performances in both film and television.
