Reb Russell grew up in Coffeyville, Kansas, where he excelled in athletics during his school years. He was a standout running back at the University of Nebraska and later became an All-American fullback at Northwestern University in 1930. Russell married Julia Stevens in 1943 and had one child. He returned to Coffeyville in the 1940s, where he settled down and focused on family life.

Career Highlights

Russell’s film career began with small roles in a few films, but it was his contract with independent producer Willis Kent that led to his work in low-budget westerns. He starred in nine films from 1934 to 1935, although his acting skills did not match his athletic talents. His time in Hollywood was short-lived as he eventually left to tour with traveling circuses throughout the late 1930s, before shifting his focus to ranching and livestock breeding.

Death and Legacy

Reb Russell passed away on March 16, 1978, from a heart attack in Coffeyville, Kansas.
