Reed Howes was born on July 5, 1900, in Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I and later pursued an education at the University of Utah and Harvard Graduate School. Howes had three marriages: he was married to Lillian Pechin, Catherine R. Tabor, and Mary Howard. His roles as a dashing leading man in early films transitioned to supporting roles as he aged.

Career

Howes began his career as a model for artist J.C. Leyendecker and quickly moved into acting. He initially found success as a handsome leading man during the silent film era. However, with the arrival of sound in movies, he struggled to adapt, leading to a shift toward playing villains in B-Westerns and action films throughout the 1940s and 1950s.

Death and Legacy

Reed Howes passed away on August 6, 1964, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, at the age of 64. His final appearance was in an episode of the television series Mister Ed in 1961. Howes is buried at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California, and is remembered for his significant contributions to early cinema.
