Reg Varney was born on July 11, 1916, in Canning Town, London, England. He was married to Lilian Emma Flavell from October 1, 1939, until her passing on November 4, 2002. They had one child together. Varney had a talent for playing the piano and even learned to drive a bus for a role in a film.

Military Service

During World War II, Varney served in the Royal Electrical Engineers, where he entertained fellow troops. After the war, he became involved in seaside performances and pantomimes, beginning his journey in the entertainment industry.

Death and Legacy

Reg Varney passed away on November 16, 2008, in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, England, due to complications from a chest infection. He is remembered for his impactful roles in British comedy and his pioneering spirit as the first person to use a cash machine when it opened in 1967.
