Born on February 18, 1901, in London, Reginald Sheffield was originally named Matthew Reginald Sheffield Cassan. He married Louise Sheffield Cassan, and the couple had three children: Billy, Alice, and Johnny Sheffield. Reginald had a sibling named Flora Sheffield.

Reginald Sheffield began his acting career at the age of twelve and moved to the U.S. in 1914. He performed on Broadway and in silent films before moving to Hollywood in 1929. Throughout his career, he took on numerous supporting roles, often portraying historical figures.
