Richard Denning was born as Louis Albert Heindrich Denninger Jr. on March 27, 1914, in Poughkeepsie, New York. He married twice, first to Evelyn Ankers in 1942, with whom he had one daughter, Diana Dee Dwyer. After Ankers’ passing in 1985, he married Patricia Ann Sanders in 1986, staying together until his death in 1998. Denning was also actively involved in local theater while pursuing a career in acting.

Denning’s acting career began in radio before transitioning to film, where he gained recognition for his appearances in monster movies during the 1950s. He became well-known for his role as the governor in the long-running series “Hawaii Five-O,” which aired from 1968 to 1980.
