Richard Kneeland was an American actor who is best known for Mr. North, The Dean of Thin Air, and Burned at the Stake.
Personal and Family Life
Richard was born on February 8, 1928, in Providence, Rhode Island. He grew up in California with his two brothers and three sisters. Richard attended high school in Los Angeles and started his acting career in theater while there. He spent a year at Los Angeles City College before serving as a Mormon missionary and in the United States Navy.
Theater Career
After his military service, Richard worked in summer stock theatre in Florida, which led to opportunities with various theatre companies. In the 1960s, he was invited by Adrian Hall to help establish the Trinity Square Theatre in Rhode Island. Richard performed at Trinity for twenty seasons, acting in multiple productions each year while also touring internationally and working with other regional theatres.
Death and Legacy
Richard Kneeland passed away quietly in his San Diego apartment on July 19, 1996, due to natural causes. His contribution to theatre is remembered fondly by friends, fans, and colleagues across the country. He was awarded the 1993 Joseph Jefferson Award for his outstanding performance in “King Lear,” showcasing his talent and dedication to the art of acting.
