Richard Lane

Richard Lane was an American actor known for The Big Wheel, Meet Boston Blackie, and Take Me Out to the Ball Game. He was active in film and television from the 1930s until his passing in the early 1980s.

Richard Lane was born on May 28, 1899, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He began his career in show business as a song-and-dance performer in vaudeville before moving into acting. After serving as an emcee for the USO during World War II, he joined Paramount Pictures, where he became well-known.

Career

Lane is best recognized for his role in numerous films and television shows during the 1940s-60s, including a recurring part as Inspector Farraday in the Boston Blackie series. He also gained fame as an announcer for local roller derby and racing events, famously exclaiming “Whooooaaaah Nellie!” during broadcasts. His dynamic presence made him a beloved figure in Los Angeles entertainment.
