He attended Langston University on a music scholarship and was part of a popular singing group called “The Langstonaires.” DoQui married Sharon Semper on June 16, 1979, and they had five children together.

DoQui’s career began in the mid-1960s after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He quickly gained a reputation for playing tough, dynamic characters in both films and television shows. Some of his notable performances include Sergeant Warren Reed in all three RoboCop films and King George in the blaxploitation classic Coffy.
