Robert Dougall was an American actor known for Danger Tomorrow, Yes Minister, and The Dick Emery Show. He was born on November 27, 1913, in Croydon, London, England, and passed away on December 19, 1999, in Southwold, Suffolk, England.

Robert Dougall was married to Nan Byam from 1946 until his death in 1999. They had one child together. Dougall joined the Royal Navy in 1942 and served on Arctic Convoys to Russia before returning to the BBC in 1946.

Career

Dougall began his broadcasting career as an announcer with BBC Radio Empire Service on his 21st birthday in 1934. He was notable for being the only one of the original announcers to have a successful television career. He announced the start of World War II and was known for broadcasting a “last appeal for peace” to Germany in German.

Robert Dougall died on December 19, 1999, in Southwold, Suffolk, England. His contributions to broadcasting and acting are remembered, particularly his involvement with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds), where he served as president.
