Robert Prosky was born on December 13, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was married to Ida Hove from June 4, 1960, until his death and had three children: Stefan, John, and Andy Prosky. Prosky received a degree in Economics from Temple University and had previously worked as a bookkeeper before pursuing acting.

Career

Prosky shifted to acting after winning a scholarship to New York’s American Theatre Wing. He has appeared on Broadway in notable plays like “A View From the Bridge” and “Glengarry Glen Ross,” earning Tony nominations for his performances. He also made guest appearances in popular TV shows, including playing Kirstie Alley’s father in “Cheers” and “Veronica’s Closet.”

Death and Legacy

Robert Prosky passed away on December 8, 2008, in Washington, D.C., due to complications from heart surgery. He left behind a rich legacy in film and theatre, remembered for his versatile roles and strong stage presence throughout his career.
