Robert Shaw was born Robert Gottschall on September 15, 1915, in Dallas, Texas. He married Mary Sue Mills on August 15, 1942, and they had three children together. His nickname was “Gotch”. Shaw was known for his love of baseball, owning a unique Babe Ruth autographed baseball displayed at the Legends of the Game Museum in Arlington, Texas. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and even built a little league baseball field in Taiwan while stationed there in the 1950s.
