Rockne Tarkington

Rockne Tarkington was an American actor who is best known for The Ice Pirates, Wyatt Earp, and The Banana Splits Adventure Hour. He was born on July 15, 1931, in Junction City, Kansas, and passed away on April 5, 2015.

Personal and Family Life

Rockne Tarkington was married twice; he first wed Joan Blackman in July 1968, and they had two children before divorcing in October 1970. He later married Iva Anita Poree on July 7, 1982, but this marriage also ended in divorce. Tarkington was the father of two children: Ngai Tarkington and Rockne Tarkington Jr.

A Career in Acting

Throughout his career, Rockne was noted for his roles in both movies and television. He was believed to be the first black actor to appear on The Andy Griffith Show and in a recurring role in a television series, Daktari. Tarkington was also considered for a role in the iconic film Enter the Dragon, but the part was ultimately given to his fellow castmate, Jim Kelly.

Death and Legacy

Rockne Tarkington passed away on April 5, 2015, in the United States. He was cremated, and his remains were given to his son. Tarkington’s contributions to film and television, especially as a trailblazer for black actors in Hollywood, have left a lasting legacy.
