Personal and Family Life

Rowland Thomas Greenwood-Bacon, better known as Roland Bartrop, was born to a father who worked for Scotland Yard’s Special Branch. Despite this background, he chose to follow his passion for acting. He was married to actress Colette Bartrop until his death in 1969.

Career

Bartrop began his career at the London Stage Academy in 1943, performing in various juvenile roles. He traveled during the war with NAAFI and ENSA and gained experience in theater before moving to television in the 1950s. He became friends with fellow actor Edmund Purdom while working on the series Sword of Freedom, and the two pursued their careers in European films, becoming known for their roles in costume dramas.

Death and Legacy

Roland Bartrop died unexpectedly at the age of 43, with his family believing it was due to a heart attack despite his fit lifestyle. His death received little media attention, but he is remembered for his contributions to film and television, particularly in Europe.
