Wanka studied economics, medicine, and philosophy at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna.

Wanka began his film career in 1931 with “M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder.” He appeared in many German and Czech films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, showcasing his talent as a polished supporting actor.
