Rosa Furman

Rosa Furman was an American actress known for her roles in films such as “Guns for San Sebastian,” “Two Mules for Sister Sara,” and “Birds of Prey.” Born on October 25, 1930, in Mexico City, Mexico, she made a name for herself in both film and theater.

Personal and Family Life

Rosa was born to Jewish immigrant parents, Fabián “Favy” Furman Jaitzer from Belarus and Sulamita Epstein Lamdansky from Lithuania. She grew up in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico and was fluent in English. She studied English and drama at the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), where she later taught acting.

Career

Rosa Furman started her career in theater, earning praise for her performance in Paul Claudel’s “La anunciación a María” in 1950. She transitioned to film after several stage appearances, debuting in “De color moreno” (1963) as an aspiring dancer. Her most notable film role came in “Birds of Prey” (1968), where she was cast in a lead role after María Félix turned it down.

Death and Legacy

Rosa Furman passed away on October 29, 1999, due to a heart attack in her hometown of Mexico City. Her contributions to both theater and film have left a lasting impact on the performing arts in Mexico. She is remembered for her talent and grace on stage and screen.
