Rosamond Pinchot was an American actress who is best known for her role as Queen Anne in the 1935 film The Three Musketeers. She was also recognized for her work on Broadway, where she earned the title “the loveliest woman in America.”
Personal and Family Life
Born on October 26, 1904, in New York City, Rosamond was the daughter of wealthy lawyer Amos Pinchot. After her parents’ divorce in 1918, her mother remarried. At nineteen, Rosamond was discovered by theater producer Max Reinhardt and made her Broadway debut in 1924.
Career
Rosamond achieved considerable success in theater, starring in several successful plays over the next few years. In 1928, she married playwright William Gaston, and they had two sons together. After marrying, she paused her acting career to focus on family life, though she returned to the stage in 1936.
Death and Legacy
On January 24, 1938, Rosamond tragically took her own life at the age of 33 by carbon monoxide poisoning. She was found in her car wearing a white evening gown, leaving behind two suicide notes that were never made public. Today, her life and legacy are remembered through her granddaughter Bibi Gaston’s memoir, which explores Rosamond’s hidden story and impact on her family.
