Roy Castle was born on August 31, 1932, in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England. He was married to Fiona Dickson from July 29, 1963, until his death in 1994, and they had four children together: Norberto (also known as “Daniel”), Julia, Antonia, and Ben. His son, Ben Castle, has become a successful saxophonist. Roy was known for being a versatile entertainer, showcasing his talents as a singer, comedian, dancer, and trumpet player throughout his career.
Death and Legacy
Roy Castle passed away on September 2, 1994, in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, due to lung cancer. Despite being a lifelong non-smoker, it is believed that his illness was caused by exposure to secondhand smoke in clubs where he worked. He is remembered not only for his performances but also for his role as the long-time presenter of the BBC show “Record Breakers,” which celebrated unique achievements and set several tap-dancing records.
