Rubye De Remer was born Ruby Burkhardt on January 9, 1892, in Denver, Colorado. She married Benjamin H. Throop, a coal baron, on April 7, 1924. Their marriage lasted until his death on May 10, 1935. Afterward, Rubye enjoyed a quiet life at her mansion, ‘Sunkist,’ located in the Hollywood Hills.

Career

Rubye began her career as a model and performer, initially winning a New York beauty contest in 1916. She appeared in various stage productions, including the Follies and the Weber and Fields revue. Her film career spanned from 1917 to 1923, during which she starred in twenty-two films, with her most notable being “The Auction Block.” Despite hopes of becoming a serious actress, she found herself often cast for her beauty rather than her acting skills.
