Russell Bates

Russell Bates was an American actor and writer who is best known for his work on Star Trek: The Animated Series, Freddie of the Jungle, and Isis.

Born on June 6, 1941, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Russell Bates served in the US Air Force during the mid-1960s. He had a passion for writing and was a student of Gene L. Coon at The Writer’s Guild of America Open Door Program, which focused on diversity.

Career

Bates was an active writer and actor, known for contributing to the Emmy-winning Star Trek Animated Series with co-writer David Wise on the episode “How Sharper Than a Serpent’s Tooth” in 1974. He also worked on other projects alongside Coon, such as It Takes A Thief and The Name of The Game. Additionally, he had a deep interest in ghost hunting and often explored haunted locations with his cousin, Milton Paddlety.
