Born on May 5, 1943, in New Bern, North Carolina, Sara Alexander Bradbury was the daughter of Sara Elizabeth Baxter and Edwin Harry Bradbury. She grew up using the name “Sara Alex” but later adopted the nickname “Saax” after attending The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. Saax was passionate about acting and made significant contributions to the theater community in her hometown.
Death and Legacy
Sadly, Saax Bradbury passed away in a plane crash on November 13, 1976, in Arizona, shortly after finishing her work on The Turning Point. The tragic accident involved an unlicensed pilot flying a four-seat Cessna. Her legacy lives on through the Saax Bradbury Players, a group of young performers in New Bern who honor her memory by taking part in local theater productions. She is laid to rest in New Bern Memorial Cemetery in Trent Woods, North Carolina.
