Sandy Denny

Sandy Denny was an English singer and songwriter who is best known for her work with the folk-rock group Fairport Convention, and her solo albums, as well as her collaborations with other artists.

Personal and Family Life

Born as Alexandra Elene MacLean Denny on January 6, 1947, in London, England, Sandy Denny had a significant impact on the music scene. She married Trevor Lucas on September 20, 1973, and they had a daughter named Georgia Lucas, who was born two months premature in 1977. Denny was admired by many, including Led Zeppelin’s lead vocalist Robert Plant, who regarded her as his favorite singer.

Death and Legacy

Sandy Denny sadly passed away on April 21, 1978, after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by a fall down a short flight of stairs. Her contributions to music were recognized posthumously when she was inducted into the British Folk Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Denny’s work continues to influence musicians and she remains a beloved figure in the folk music community.
