Sathyan

Sathyan was an Indian actor who is best known for his roles in Neelakuyil, Karakanakadal, and Kadalpalam. He was born on November 9, 1912, in Aramada, Trivandrum, Travancore, and passed away on June 13, 1971.

Personal and Family Life

Sathyan, whose birth name was Cheruvilakathu Veetil Manuel Sathyanesan Nadar, was born into a Christian family to Manuel and Lilly Amma. He served as a Viceroy’s Commissioned Officer before working as a Police Inspector in the Travancore State Police. Sathyan was married to Jessy and had three children.

Career

Sathyan made his film debut in the 1952 Malayalam film Athmasakhi. He gained fame with the critically acclaimed film Neelakuyil in 1954. Throughout his career, he received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor twice, in 1969 for Kadalpalam and again in 1971 for Karakanakadal. He was affectionately known as Sathyan Master among his peers.

Death and Legacy

Sathyan passed away on June 13, 1971, in Madras, India. To honor his contribution to cinema, the Kerala Cultural Forum established the Sathyan Memorial Award, which includes a cash prize, a plaque, and a citation. His legacy continues to influence aspiring artists in the Malayalam film industry.
