Shaike Ophir was born Yesha’yahu Goldstein and was a fourth-generation Israeli. He was well-educated, studying at the “Alliance” school in Jerusalem and training at the “Haohel” Theatre Studio. He had two marriages; his first was to singer Ohela Halevi from 1948 to 1961, with whom he had two children, followed by his second marriage to Lidya Ophir from 1972 until his death in 1987, which also resulted in two children. Ophir was the father of actors Elad Ophir and Karin Ophir.
Career Highlights
Ophir served in the “Palmach” underground forces in his teens, where he began to showcase his comedic talents. He became a star performer with the “Cheezbatron,” the Palmach’s entertainment group, and later received an invitation from Marlene Dietrich to join her in a show. Recognized for his mime skills, Life magazine referred to him as one of the world’s best mime artists, placing him alongside Marcel Marceau.

Shaike Ophir passed away on August 17, 1987, in Tel Aviv, Israel, due to cancer.
