Sigrid Gurie was born on May 18, 1911, in Brooklyn, New York, and moved back to Norway with her family in 1912. She had a twin brother, Knut Haukelid, who became famous as a war hero during WWII. Although she married three times, her relationships were troubled, leaving her with little affection for her ex-husbands. Gurie was also an accomplished artist, spending her later years in San Miguel Allende developing her painting skills.
Death and Legacy
Sigrid Gurie passed away on August 14, 1969, in Mexico City due to an embolism. Intriguingly, her brother Knut suffered a similar fate shortly after learning of her death.
