Stanley Owen Schmidt was born on October 6, 1936, in Kokstad, Transkei, South Africa. He was educated at King Edward VII High School and later earned a Master’s Degree in Communications from the University of South Africa. In 1963, he visited Japan for the first time and began training with esteemed Japanese Karate Masters, furthering his expertise in martial arts.
Career
Schmidt became a prominent figure in the martial arts community as a founding fellow of the International Karate Society (IKS) and established the College of the Open Hand. He gained recognition through his appearance in South African martial arts films, particularly showcasing his skills in both Karate Killer (1976) and its sequel Kill and Kill Again (1981).
