Steve Rossi, born Joseph Charles Michael Tafarella, came from Harlem, New York. He was married to Karma Kennedy from August 15, 2003, until his death on June 22, 2014. Before that, he was married to Elaine Annette Gronski, with whom he had two children.

Rossi made a name for himself in the entertainment world, especially in comedy. He became one of the first successful racially-mixed comedy acts by teaming up with African-American comic Slappy White in 1969 after splitting from Marty Allen.
