Susan Shaw, originally named Patsy Sloots, began her career as a photographic model at the age of 16, which led her to film. She was married three times, first to Albert Lieven, with whom she had a daughter, and later to American actor Bonar Colleano, with whom she had a son, actor Mark Colleano. Following Bonar’s tragic death in a car accident, Susan struggled with alcoholism, which affected her personal life greatly.

Susan Shaw passed away on November 27, 1978, in Middlesex, England, from liver cirrhosis. She died without financial means, and her funeral expenses were covered by the Rank Organisation, the film studio that helped launch her career. Her legacy lives on through her son, Mark Colleano, who followed in her footsteps as an actor.
