Tammy Grimes was born on January 30, 1934, in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Eola Willard and Luther Nichols Grimes and attended Beaver Country Day School and Stephens College. Tammy was married three times, first to actor Christopher Plummer, with whom she had a daughter, Amanda Plummer. Her second marriage was to Jeremy Slate, which ended in divorce after a year. She later married Canadian composer Richard Jameson Bell in 1971, and they remained together until his death in 2005.
