Born Charles Olden on November 21, 1905, in Wigan, England, Ted Ray married Dorothy Sybil Stevens in 1933 and had two children, Robin and Andrew Ray. He was the father-in-law of actress Susan Stranks. Ray had a passion for music and was an accomplished violinist, which complemented his variety acts on stage.
