Evans was related to the famous novelist George Eliot and the illustrator John Tenniel. He had a diverse educational background, having briefly attended the British Army officer training centre Sandhurst, and he studied at St. Andrews University before going on to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Career

Evans had a prolific acting career, which began in the theater in the early 1950s and included regular performances in London’s West End. He also became a Church of England minister in 1985, balancing his religious duties with his acting career.
