Thuy Trang’s family faced significant challenges after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Her father, a Vietnam War veteran, sought asylum in the United States, while Thuy and her family remained in Vietnam until 1979. They escaped on a cargo ship, first going to a detention camp in Hong Kong before finally reuniting in California in 1980. Thuy graduated from Banning High School and initially pursued a scholarship in civil engineering at UC Irvine before turning to acting.
Career
Thuy Trang developed an interest in acting after the death of her father from cancer in 1992. In 1993, she achieved fame as Trini Kwan, the original Yellow Ranger, on the popular television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. After leaving the show in 1994, she appeared in a documentary and had a cameo role in the film Spy Hard (1996). Thuy also played Kali in The Crow: City of Angels (1996) and reprised the role in The Crow: Stairway to Heaven (1998).
Death and Legacy
Tragically, Thuy Trang passed away on September 3, 2001, in a car accident on the I-5 in San Francisco, California. She suffered fatal injuries during the incident, leaving behind a small but impactful body of work.
