Tilly was born as Ottilie Ethel Losch and started her dance training at the Vienna Imperial Opera ballet school at six years old. She joined the ballet corps at the young age of fifteen and gained fame for her Viennese waltzes. She was married twice, first to Edward James from 1930 to 1934 and later to Henry George Alfred Marius Victor Francis Herbert, the 6th Earl of Carnarvon, from 1939 until their divorce in 1947. This second marriage granted her the title of Lady Camarvon.

Career

In her career, Tilly Losch danced with famous partners like Fred Astaire, and she starred in the original Broadway production of “The Band Wagon.” After facing severe depression, she took up painting and displayed her art publicly for several years.
